Lord Ullin s Daughter’ is a romantic ballad of Thomas Campbell. The ballad describes the tragic love story of Lord Ullin s daughter and her lover, the chieftain ofUlva island. Lord Ullin was against their marriage but his daughter defied him and eloped with her lover. They rowed together in the stormy sea but were hotly chased by Lord Ullin and his armed men. The stormy waves became the graves of the lovers. Lord Ullin s wrath soon changed into wailing and he stood at the shore lamenting over the tragedy.

The valiant boatman promised that he would row them over the ferry not in the hope of getting a silver pound but for his extremely beautiful bride. The storm had grown fierce. The stormy water was threatening like a ghost. The heaven was scowling. The beautiful lady heard the stamping of the horses. Lord Ullin and his men were quite near. She cried to make haste as she didn’t want to face her angry father.

Lord Ullin reached the ‘fatal shore’. He found his daughter stretching one arm for help and the other around her lover. Lord Ullin assured that he would forgive them. But it was too late. Lord Ullin’s wrath was changed into wailing when he saw his beautiful daughter lying dead before his own eyes.

सरदार ने किश्ती वाले को बताया कि वे इकट्ठे पिछले तीन दिनों से एक जगह से दूसरी जगह भागते रहे हैं। Lord Ullin और उसके हथियारबंद घुड़सवार उनके पीछे हैं। यदि वे उन्हें उस तंग घाटी में देख लेते हैं तो Lord Ullin उसे तुरन्त , मार डालेंगे। सरदार ने किश्ती वाले को और देर न करने को कहा और उसे इनाम के तौर पर एक चाँदी का पौण्ड देने का वायदा किया।

बहादुर किश्ती वाले ने कहा कि वह. एक चाँदी का पौण्ड पाने की आशा से नहीं, अपितु उसकी अति सुन्दर दुल्हन के खातिर वह उन्हें नाव-घाट के पार ले चलेगा। तूफान अति प्रचण्ड हो गया था। तूफानी पानी एक भूत की तरह डरा रहा था। आसमान भी भृकुटि तान रहा था। सुन्दर महिला को घोड़ों की टापे सुनायी पड़ीं। Lord Ullin और उसके आदमी काफी नजदीक थे। वह जल्दी करने के लिये चीखने लगी क्योंकि वह एक क्रोधित बाप का सामना नहीं करना चाहती थी।
