The scholarship awards eligible candidates INR 12,000 over the course of 12 months (INR 1,000 per month). The amount is transferred directly to the student’s account by the State Bank Of India through PFMS (Public Financial Management System).   • Funding for further education: SC/ST/OBC candidates will get funds for the post-matriculation studies irrespective of streams.
  • Student eligibility: The eligibility and family annual income of candidates will be verified by the authority.
  • Study Tours: Study tour amount up to a maximum of Rs. 900 per annum for OBC and Rs. 1600 per annum for SC/ST Candidates studying professional and technical courses will be paid. The study tour amount is limited to the actual expenditure incurred by the candidate on the transportation charges. The study tour will be provided if the head of the institution certifies that the tour is required for completion of the candidate’s course of study.
  • Fees: Fees such as tuition, library, magazine, medical examination, etc.will be paid to candidates.
  • Thesis Typing or Printing Charges: Thesis typing or printing charges up to a maximum of Rs. 1000 per annum for OBC Candidates. Whereas Rs. 1600 per annum for SC/ST candidates will be paid on the recommendation of the head of the institution.

Ashirwad Scholarship Amount

Ashirwad Scholarship amount contains the following expenses for the complete course duration.

  • Maintenance Allowance

Ashirwad Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply for Ashirwad Scholarship 2019-20.

  • Indian Nationals belonging to SC/ST/OBC category are eligible.
  • Candidates must have passed class 10 from Govt. or private or any recognized University or Board of Secondary Education of Punjab.
  • The candidate’s age should not be less than 17 years while applying for this scholarship.
  • The annual family income for SC/ST candidates should not be above 2.5 Lakh. For OBC candidates, annual family income should not be more than 1 Lakh.
  • Students pursuing correspondence or distance courses are also eligible for the scholarship.
  • Candidates pursuing Postgraduate in medicine are not allowed to practice during their course.
  • Candidates who get this scholarship can not apply for any other scholarship scheme.

Times SPARK Scholarship Selection Procedure

  • Registration: As a first step, students require to register online for the courses.
  • Reading Phase: Beginning October 25, The Times of India newspaper will include ONE article every day, in its print version, across a range of fields such as current affairs, science and technology, sports, politics, social issues, education, global developments, etc. over a span of 50 days. These articles will provide multidimensional perspectives to support students get a deeper understanding of many interesting subjects.
  • Practice Tests and Presentations: Weekly practice tests will be conducted online, with questions based on the article. Twice during the courses, students will be asked to summarize articles and share their views in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, which they can upload on the site. every practice test will comprise 3 stories, every with 6 questions, to be answered in 15 minutes.
  • Final Examination: During Dec 21-23, 2019, there would be an online test followed by an interview to assess the students’ understanding and perspective. The test will comprise 11 stories, every with 6 questions, to be answered in 60 minutes.
  • First Shortlist and Interviews: The First Shortlist of the courses will be decided basis the cumulative score i.e. participation marks in the practice tests and presentations + marks obtained in the final examination. The best performers, in terms of the cumulative score, will require to appear for an interview in person.
  • Winners and felicitation: For every one of the two levels (as mentioned in the Eligibility criteria mentioned earlier), 100 winners will be chosen as winners. A select number will be invited to a felicitation ceremony whose details will be communicated later.
  • Interviews: The cumulative score will be used to decide the First Shortlist for the interviews. The interviews will be the final phase of evaluation, the winners of which will be announced as the Times Scholars for 2019.
