Time Spark Scholarship

TIMES Spark Scholarship 2021-2022: Times SPARK is a scholarship under READ TO LEAD courses. SPARK stands for Scholarship courses for Awareness, Responsibility, and Knowledge. This is an endeavor to encourage school students of class IX to XII to develop a reading habit that helps them understand our society and environment so that they can go on to write the future.

The Times of India will include one article per day across a range of fields like current affairs, science, and technology, sports, politics, social issues, global developments, etc. Over a span of 3 months, these articles will provide multi-dimensional perspectives to support students get a deeper understanding of many interesting subjects. At last, there would be an online test followed by an interview to assess the student’s understanding and perspectives.

After the final assessment at the end of 3 months, up to 400 students will get an educational grant ranging from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakhs. For the top 20, Bennett University will organize a special orientation program with its partner institutions – Cornell and Georgia Tech.

Times SPARK Scholarship Benefits

  • For Students: After the final assessment at the end of 3 months, up to 400 students will get an educational grant ranging from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 lakhs. For the top 20, Bennett University will organize a special orientation program with its partner institutions – Cornell and Georgia Tech.
  • For Schools: The top 5 schools of every city based on the number of their students enrolled for the program, will get featured in The Times of India.

Times SPARK Scholarship Eligibility

Students of class IX to XII can apply for these courses in two different levels:

  • Level – I for students with birthdate from 1st July 2001 to 30th June 2004
  • Level – II for students with birthdate from 1st July 1998 to 30th June 2001
  • The program is free for all. No registration fee.

Times SPARK Scholarship

Times SPARK Scholarship Selection Procedure

  • Registration: As a first step, students require to register online for the courses.
  • Reading Phase: Beginning October 25, The Times of India newspaper will include ONE article every day, in its print version, across a range of fields such as current affairs, science and technology, sports, politics, social issues, education, global developments, etc. over a span of 50 days. These articles will provide multidimensional perspectives to support students get a deeper understanding of many interesting subjects.
  • Practice Tests and Presentations: Weekly practice tests will be conducted online, with questions based on the article. Twice during the courses, students will be asked to summarize articles and share their views in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, which they can upload on the site. every practice test will comprise 3 stories, every with 6 questions, to be answered in 15 minutes.
  • Final Examination: During Dec 21-23, 2019, there would be an online test followed by an interview to assess the students’ understanding and perspective. The test will comprise 11 stories, every with 6 questions, to be answered in 60 minutes.
  • First Shortlist and Interviews: The First Shortlist of the courses will be decided basis the cumulative score i.e. participation marks in the practice tests and presentations + marks obtained in the final examination. The best performers, in terms of the cumulative score, will require to appear for an interview in person.
  • Winners and felicitation: For every one of the two levels (as mentioned in the Eligibility criteria mentioned earlier), 100 winners will be chosen as winners. A select number will be invited to a felicitation ceremony whose details will be communicated later.
  • Interviews: The cumulative score will be used to decide the First Shortlist for the interviews. The interviews will be the final phase of evaluation, the winners of which will be announced as the Times Scholars for 2019.
