    • The combining capacity of the atoms to form molecules either with same or different elements is
    defined as valencv
    • Valency of an element may be calculated as the minimum number of electrons required by the atom to
    loose or gain so as to acquire a nobk gas configuration.
    • The number of electrons present in the outermost shell of an atom are called valence electrons.
    The valency of a metal element is equal to the number of valence electrons in its atom.
    • The valency of a non-metal element is usually equal to eight minus the number of valence electrons
    in its atom.
